Garmin Friction Mount is made of non-slip rubber and conforms to the contours of your dashboard. It really stays in place and keeps your GPS in your chosen position. The only reason I gave it 3 STARS is because it's the 3rd one I've bought because after a while the plastic hinge part cracks and it breaks. GPS block to fall out. The rubber part is still fully functional, but the plastic part with the hinge pin will break and not support the weight of the GPS. If it weren't for the tendency for the hinge to crack, I'd give it 5 stars. Since it sits on my dashboard most of the time, it's possible the sun is making the plastic brittle. I typically get 2 to 3 years of excellent service before failing. Not being an expert in this field, I can only base my opinion on my own experience. I keep ordering these friction mounts because they stay on the dash where you place them. I don't like suction cups that leave circles all over the windshield. Plain bearings are clean and can be removed without leaving any marks.
