Review on ACDelco Professional 12T79E 192 Degrees Engine Coolant Thermostat: Efficient Cooling Solution for Optimal Engine Performance by Adam Cummings

Thermostat + transmission cooler

I bought this from another site. The original was from Revain, but the wrong one was sent. The 3800 Series 2 requires 195F, however AC Delco have been making (alternative) thermostats for many years that work great on older cars. I put this one in because it has a built in thermostat. This, even if it sticks closed, gives ample time to stop before it's completely melted. They say the 3800 loves warmth. However, the 4T65E transmission does not. So I installed a Hayden transmission cooler through the radiator and it keeps my transmission cool and my operating temps are 192-205F in the light and as cool as 180-185 on the freeway. I allow for the light gas mileage I embrace in the morning hours, but I let the car warm up to at least 100F before thinking about heading out. And this combination of Hayden thermostat and cooler completely helped me with my transmission problem. I wish I had done it last year when I bought a used car. 2004 Buick Lesabre 76k on the dashboard.
