The bristles are from wild boars and are medium firm but not too stiff to use comfortably. They are cut unevenly to gently exfoliate the scalp. The wooden handle is hand-carved black walnut that is easy to grip, and it is a great size at 8.2" in length and 1.6" wide. It is easy to manipulate, either around the scalp or beard.My son, who has medium texture kind of wavy hair and lots of it, has really liked using this hairbrush. He has found it brushes through his hair easily and smoothly. It feels good on his scalp. The bristles are medium firm and do not scratch his scalp. The size of the brush fits so well in his hands. His hair is not long, so he is not in the detangling business.I am pleased that he is pleased with this boar bristle brush. I was a little worried how he would like it but I am glad I took a chance on it. We both recommend it - it is excellent quality at a reasonable price.
