Review on ๐Ÿ”’ Anchor Setting Fixing Plasterboard for Xth Nth by Fred Griffin

A great idea. didn't know there was such a tool

I don't usually use this type of wall anchor because it's easy to damage a wall if you overtighten and not easy to remove if you overtighten have to pull out. I generally prefer self-tapping screws, which make nice, clean holes and are easy to remove. But these anchors also serve a purpose and tend to have higher weight limits. IMHO the colorful ribbed plastics that come with the wall mount kit are THE WORST! This tool makes it easy to install the wall anchor without rotating the base so it doesn't cut into the drywall surface and potentially damage the surface. I had a specific use for this to test, which was to replace the top screw on a towel rail that had come loose from the drywall. I had to remove the old anchor first which caused a bit of damage as you have to pull the slightly expanded anchor through the hole which results in the drywall hole being expanded which you need to keep as small as possible so you can get another one can effectively use anchors. Anyway, I pulled it out, but the remaining hole was too big for the next size anchor to replace. As you can see from the photos I went for a much larger one that still had a screw that could go through the towel warmer mounting hardware. The new wall anchor was easy to insert and expand with a tool. I had to turn the screw a few turns and then retighten to tighten it, but no need to worry. The tool is housed in a sturdy box with hinges, instructions and various dowels.

Pros
  • Cavity wall anchor
Cons
  • Requires socket
