The cabin fan in my truck made an odd clicking noise at high speed for a long time, but only at the lowest fan speed. A strange "fairy smoke" smell started coming out of the vents this week, so it's time for a swap. This TYC unit arrived quickly, is a very exact copy of a stock part and was probably one of the easiest swaps I've ever done on a vehicle. Heck, some engine air filter housings take longer to open than this thing. On my truck, a Torx20 screwdriver quickly undid the three screws holding the fan in place, and the wiring harness was quickly disconnected and reconnected. There are no weird retaining clips. One caveat - there is a tiny hole where the wire harness connects. That may be because it's a more versatile part, but my stock part didn't have any holes anywhere. I went ahead and blocked it with a piece of high temp HVAC tape. It will be easy enough to remove later if need be. I've attached a picture showing the hole. At the moment, the fan is quieter than the original at all speeds and the airflow is good. I will update this review later if there are any issues.
