I have a 2012 MacBook Pro with Retina display. The original drive didn't boot, but I was able to get it to work after erasing it and everything restarted. I didn't have faith in the original drive, so I decided to try the OWC drive. Note. I had to hold down the "Option" key instead of "Command + R" and then press the power button on the first boot. Although I was able to get it to work, it had issues with macOS updates as well as app updates. I don't know why, but maybe the MacBook realized it's not an "apple drive". Mountain Lion, which loaded automatically). The problem is that it didn't automatically update me to the latest version of macOS compared to the original drive. I've spent hours figuring out how to take over macOS Catalina automatically. I admit I could have downloaded it manually, but compared to the original drive, all you had to do was click "Software Updates" and it would automatically check for any available updates. Those weren't just macOS updates, they were, and they were also other app updates stuck on the old drive.. I recommend OWS for their tech support but in the end I'm returning it and risking it on the original CD.. I'm 100% sure the MacBook does that Detects original drive differently compared to OWC I've spent enough time on both, cleaning them up and then starting over to find out updates behave differently, maybe someone has a solution that can help the next person?
