I had a Prevue Hendryx Earthtone Dusted Rate and Chinchilla cage for my five female rats and while I was happy with the cage, the small door and short shelves were not in my favor. I wanted to buy my girls a much larger and easier to maintain cage. In my experience, this cage has several advantages and disadvantages. Pros * The bars are horizontal and the distance between them is very small, my three younger little girls couldn't escape no matter how hard they tried. * The doors will open, all four are fully open and you can even REMOVE them. * Ensemble took an hour and was very easy, you just put the pieces together (although I highly recommend having a rubber mallet, I used a cast iron skillet to get everything firmly in place) * VERY roomy! I should have taken a single one, not a double, 'cause my girls' lyres are midgets. So many places! * Easy to clean. I take out the shelves and wash them with hot water and vinegar, take a rag and wipe the rods and so on with the same solution. Not including the bottom parts and just the cage itself 4ft 1, about 2ft each. * It has wheels and is easy to move and reposition. ** You can split the cage into two parts! One of my rats is pretty aggressive and if it gets out of control or one of my girls gets hurt I can close two levels of each other with a ramp. Cons * If you receive this, I hope you have someone very strong to carry or pull this! * The ramps are not strong and as such this may be a problem for some people or animals such as chinchillas. Honestly, based on my experience with only about 2 months of use, I can't find any flaws with the cage. It was a great cage and my rats are much happier and love to comb through the bars and have room to run away from each other if needed.
