This charge controller charges the battery but also diverts some of the energy to the connected load. I mounted my controller vertically for better cooling. The basis of the device is a heat sink with fins. No fan required. There are a variety of settings that are easy to adjust, but you can simply set the battery type and total amp-hours to get started. I use it in an RV. This MPPT controller exceeded my expectations!
