Review on SR SP12 Suntour Suspension Seat Post by Dexter Diaz

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Very good seat post suspension!

I ride an e-bike with big tires. This is a cruiser style that is very suitable for moderate trails and therefore uneven terrain. Its front suspension is great, but with the Suntour SP12-NCX, my ride is much softer for my rear as I didn't want to make the seat bigger as it can get in the way a bit on harder trails. ordered a heavier spring since mine is 190#. This shock absorber moves the damping movement down and back, an excellent design used in highly acclaimed and much more expensive products (like the Thud Buster). Moving to heavier conditions has allowed me to maintain full functionality and maintain the riding position at the back of the mount on my seat, giving me the best geometry and fit. Mounting my seat in this position maximizes leverage (and stress) so the heavier spring makes the suspension behave similarly to a front mount with less leverage and a lighter spring. Essentially, the seat rails offer about 4 inches of adjustability front and rear, changing the geometry of both your bike and any suspension seatpost. Note the minimal extension of the top tube of the seat post and the bottom of the saddle. The suspension needs about 4 inches, so your minimum extension now needs to be at least 4 inches. The diameter of the seat post is absolute. Check out your current one, usually the size is listed below. I suggest Cane Creek seals as they are around $12 and are aluminum - really top quality. My bar was 30.4mm: I don't think 30.9mm is enough! The padding provides a very good, firm and snug fit. If you don't need seat adjustment but want to make your ride a little easier, this Suntour Sp12=ncx is your best bet. Durability good thanks to design and construction materials. This is a quality upgrade and well worth doing. Comparable to Thud Buster and others under $250, the value is really great. Oh fun, safe driving!
