I bought these for my 3 and 5 year olds and was a little concerned all the buttons would be too complicated otherwise they would mess up the settings resulting in the devices not working properly function. together. HOWEVER, the keyboard has a lock feature that locks all keys except the Talk, Flashlight, Power, Call, and Monitor keys. Only the ones we need! So my fears were allayed. I had no trouble removing the belt clip to access the battery compartment like some others have. I pressed a small ledge and they slid out. The batteries fit very tightly in the compartment, but everything worked fine. It's over Christmas so I've only tested them at home so can't comment on distance but they're for my boys indoor play anyway. Very clear sound. ADDITIONAL INFO: You can turn off the keyboard tones and the "roger" beep, but I've kept the "roger" beep because that's part of the fun of the walkie-talkie. But I turned off keyboard tones lol. The built in flashlight is nice and bright which is a very cool bonus feature as my kids LOVE flashlights. I love the color, they will be easy to spot in the sea of toys we own.
