Overall, this gate has served us for a little over 1 year. This was my first baby gate purchase after LOTS of research and feedback from friends/family and knowing our railing/wall installation requirements. My toddler dropped a wooden Melissa & Doug bench, rolled down the carpeted stairs and hit this gate in the PERFECT spot, breaking the crappy plastic connector that keeps the gate working properly. The gate is now completely useless without this piece of plastic so I ordered another one. Very angry plastic connecting parts on children's things. Just know that you get what you pay for. I don't have time to research an all metal baby gate so I'll revisit this model and see how long it lasts for our second child down the road.
