Review on πŸ”Œ ISTA I-539 Reactor - External by Alex Jones

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Excellent resolution of C02

ISTA reactor I-539 C02 fits my Eheim external filter 2217 quite well. Covers that are intended for disconnecting the hose are completely useless. I've used several metal hose clamps from big stores and they work great. My other complaint is that this item is quite noisy. Regardless of how much air is removed from the system, if you use CO2 (and I hope you do, as that is literally the sole purpose of this article) to feed your system with CO2 gas, you will find that this element produces noise. If it's in a well-designed, sturdy aquarium cabinet, you might not even notice it. If it's in a cheap Petsmart/Petco chipboard cabinet, you'll notice. In general, I am very satisfied with the efficiency of the reactor. It's fairly cheap and good value being all plastic, but it's actually more efficient than some of the higher end Chinese aluminum CO2 diffusers I've had. I now use many of these "cheaper" CO2 reactors exclusively. These reactors are far more efficient than even the most expensive in-line diffusers I've used. If a company could simply produce a high-quality, durable in-line aquarium CO2 reactor, they would easily conquer the market.

Pros
  • Fish and aquatic animals
Cons
  • Very expensive
