Review on Motorcycle Tool Accessories - Motion Pro PBR Chain Breaker, Black, One Size by Tyler Dorsey

Revainrating 5 out of 5

This is the only chain/rivet breaker you should buy

The rear sprocket on my G650GS looks like it's nearing the end of its life. Preferring to do everything myself, I started buying the tools I needed to replace the chain and sprockets. There are many different chain cutter and rivet kits available. Most of them are cheap and not worth the money. Motion Pro makes two sets of a chain breaker and a set of rivets, the more expensive one here is the one you should get. What is striking about this kit is that it is not intended for one-time use (good luck if you get more than one use from kits under $100). Actually plan on breaking pins or removing threads the first time and you won't be able to finish the job with these less expensive kits). It is designed for maintenance and the threads are cleaned and lubricated between uses. In fact, it even came with a small packet of lube to help you with that. This kit also included color instructions written by someone who speaks English and detailed pictures showing you each step of the breaking, pressing and riveting process. It's been a long time since I've bought a tool with such a high quality and well written manual (in fact I can't think of a tool that even remotely compares)! The tool came in its own box. It has fewer parts than a regular factory kit, but that's actually the advantage of this kit. You can see that Motion Pro, the maker of various anvils and pressure plates you can work with, has integrated all of these functions into a nifty little unit that you rotate on the tool to perform different functions. No more fiddling around trying to figure out what adapters or parts you need for what you're doing. The multifunctional block in this set is stenciled with the letters "R, B and P". You simply rotate the block to align the letters on the riveting, breaking or pressing tool. Fabulous! The Motion Pro kit is also one of those kits where the pin is strong enough to break the roller pin on the chain. However, there is no need to expose the tool to this kind of abuse. First I just sanded the pin head with an angle grinder. This is a great kit for anyone looking to replace their chains themselves. Please don't skimp on the cheaper kit and just buy this Motion Pro Kit. The extra money you spend saves you time and hassle with poor quality tools that can break or misinstall your chain. Motion Pro makes great products and this PBR circuit breaker tool is one of them!
