Can be a little thinner, but doesn't protrude further than the cable. It is also nice that there is nothing on the floor, which makes cleaning easier. Haven't used it for travel yet, but that would be great. I wanted surge protection for my devices at home. I bought 4 but need to order more. Until it wears out a bit, it's difficult to turn off - you need both hands, one to hold the surge protector and the other to turn it off. If you have a heavy object (an electric shaver), the weight may cause it to tip over. I just plugged in the middle bottom connector - no tilt. EXCELLENT for my use!
