I have read many reviews that say the metal parts of this unit rust very quickly. I still decided to buy it. The reviews were correct. A week later, traces of rust appeared. However, I've had it for over four months now and it's working just as well as the day I bought it. metal rusts. It's a fact. This is a HEAVY product and does what it's supposed to do regardless of the rust. My dog is an 80 lb (pure muscle) escape artist and this works great to keep him in the yard. She never undid any of the clasps, although she tugged repeatedly to "visit" the neighbor's dog. Both fasteners are very heavy (and only heavy). It may have rust, but this thing doesn't break without a fight any more or worse than my girl's. For those of you worried about rusting, I recommend spraying them with a rust preventative before putting them outside. Problem solved.
