Review on Glentronics Inc BWD HWA 00895001498 Basement by Gary Ferguson

Watch how it 'works'

After a large leak in the line to my water heater, my floors got wet and damaged. I decided that I wanted to be ready for next time. I took this device based on the rating. I placed the unit on the floor opposite the water heater just below the last leak. I checked it. It worked great. Fast forward in two months. The tank in the same water heater started leaking, and who knows how long, because this thing did nothing. When I finally got to my heater and water was dripping under the floor, the unit was so soaked that I had to open the battery compartment to drain it. Yes, the same amount of water covered the alarm itself. Problem? Apparently it requires a significant amount of standing water to work. Because the leak was slow, and because the floor, although wet, dripped and absorbed some of the water, and because the water drained through a nearby cutout in the floor, it never reached a sufficient amount of standing water. Unless the water heater actually exploded and created a huge puddle, this thing is useless. I had a different brand unit that I keep under the sink that looks like a frog and sits flush with the floor. It seemed to me when I used this one that it was also more or less on par. Now my floors are ruined. I hope this review helps you before the same thing happens to you. If you're not expecting a literal flood of where you put this thing, look elsewhere.
