The bed supports our little dog well, with a roll around it so he can curl up or rest his chin on it. But she also likes to stretch out and stick her head overboard, which apparently does her good too. It's all in one piece, with no removable cover. I have a fairly large washing machine so I don't expect any problems installing it, although I haven't tried it yet. The bed we chose is terrycloth fur covered with very soft silky fibers and she jumped up as soon as we put her on the floor and got comfortable. So far I have no negative comments on it and can't comment on durability as we haven't had it very long. But it seems well constructed and has a solid material on the bottom.
