When I buy a used book, I take it out, tap it on the cover or dust jacket and roll it, applying light pressure to the surface. And presto. It removes all dirt/stains from the surface without removing ink or affecting the paper. It's really just a cotton pad that contains very fine particles of some sort of Staedtler Mars Plastic Eraser - a soft, white, sticky type - allowing them to draw evenly and consistently on the paper. Could you do it cheaper with Staedtler? Absolutely. But it allows a higher level of speed. This is for coloring. Note: After use, the book should be wiped with a cloth to remove any remaining particles. never mind You'll still need a white Staedtler eraser to remove stains, but for a quick clean, this is a very handy tool.
