Good material, bad size

I ordered a size 8 for a slim/tall 8 year old boy. While the waist was a little loose (but good enough to wear), the legs were too small. He immediately complained that they were too tight on his hips, making them unwearable. Otherwise the material was thick and soft and the design was cute.
