Review on Acer XV272U Xbmiipruzx Splendor Display - 1440p Agile Gaming Monitor by William Barton

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I'm obsessed with this monitor: 27 inch, 1440p, 240Hz (overclocked to 270Hz) and an IPS panel!

I don't usually write reviews, but it would be a detriment to this product not to share my experience. I'm not Linus from Linus Tech Tips, but I'll try to give you an idea of who I am as a competitive player. Resolution and Color Accuracy: I bought this monitor because I wanted a more immersive gaming experience. I've previously used a 24-inch curved monitor with a VA panel at 1080p, 144Hz and 250 nits of brightness. The difference between them is truly astronomical. The image quality is noticeable (more dpi) and the colors are much better on this monitor. representative of the actual colors displayed in the images. Now I can't comment on this IPS panel in comparison to other IPS panels as I haven't had the luxury of experimenting with others. Based on what other people have said, there are better monitors out there that have more accurate color reproduction. I don't need a monitor with the most accurate color reproduction. That being said, the color was a huge improvement over what I had previously used. Plus, blacks are rich and HDR looks phenomenal. Mention that this monitor has no backlight! I've seen this issue on a lot of these high-end monitors, so I was very happy to see that it wasn't. 270Hz didn't see any cracking or noticeable pixelation after overclocking, which is a great sign! The monitor is advertised as being able to run at 270Hz and I was very impressed that it was able to do that. I ran several different tests to see the difference in FPS at 60, 75, 144, 165, 240, and 270. I was just shocked to find out the difference between 240Hz and 270Hz in these tests. Now you have to understand that most people will not reach these frames depending on the type of games you play. However, it's still nice to be able to run games at 270 fps. As mentioned, I switched from a 144Hz monitor to a 270Hz monitor, so getting almost twice the frames is huge. Depending on the games I play I get anywhere from 190 to 250 fps (190 in first person shooters like COD, PUBG etc and 250 in games like Rocket League). I can honestly say it matters because your eyes get more information (more frames) per second. This means you can react faster in games. Having higher frames in first person shooters gives you a huge advantage. So if you mainly play games like me, this monitor is definitely worth the money (assuming your computer can output frames). All in all, if you're looking for a 27-inch, 1440p, IPS panel, 240+Hz display then do yourself a favor and buy this monster. Don't think about it. Just buy and thank me later. I paid $679 for it and I really think it's worth every penny. I know the PC market is currently crowded and prices fluctuate a lot so I wanted everyone to know the pricing basis. Let me reiterate that you should only buy this monitor if you really want an upgrade and are a competitive gamer. Even if you're a casual gamer, you can certainly enjoy your time on this monitor, but this monitor is designed (in my opinion) for competitive gaming. I love this monitor and am so thankful it met my expectations.

Pros
  • ‎2560x1440
Cons
  • Screen burn-in: This occurs when a static image is displayed on the monitor for too long and continually burns into the screen.
