At best, they like to sit on them. The handles were VERY sticky to the point that I was concerned about our hardwood floors and ended up removing them (they didn't stick to the product as much as they did to the floor). Looks really cute, but my 2, 6, and 12 year olds all prefer cardboard scratching posts (that's what I get when I'm trying to get rid of the mess maker). If your cats already like the material, you might be able to do better.
