Surprisingly handy device with a lot of technology for the price. I love that I can digitize my entire film collection and store it on a small hard drive and take it with me when I travel, especially in an RV. I had no problems playing my AV files from the MicroSD card or the 1TB external SSD I used. I have two complaints I want to address: The console is terrible. They opt for Apple-style minimalism, which is confusing at times. The remote gear is the most sensitive (least sensitive?) I've ever seen. You have to point it DIRECTLY at the box for it to work and don't go too far. The fast forward is absolutely maddening. He's either moving forward VERY quickly, or he's struggling with a two-step, one-step back behavior that would make you want to throw you out the window. We often use subtitles/closed captions. This is a really bad implementation of the standards (15 years ago my job was to write software to interpret and display CC). CC looks awful and I can't figure out why. It is sometimes dark yellow with a yellow border, nauseating and difficult to read. In other cases it is somewhat normal. To enable CC, set the setting to OFF, which makes no sense. It ignores the standard timeout requirements after a certain amount of time and sometimes leaves the last spoken word on the screen for several minutes. It also seems to ignore the "Delete" command, which also causes text to stay on screen much longer than intended. even if it is not always intuitive. Summary - This product comes so close to being amazing! The media player technology is great. The utility of having portable video libraries that plug into any HDMI TV is fantastic. It just has really bad CC software implementations, a weird user interface, and a lousy remote control. I want to love it but they still have work to do. 5 stars for potential, coolness and reasonable price. 3 stars for the actual implementation until they fix and fast forward the CC.
