Ideal for LSI Broadcom SAS 9300-8i Host Bus Adapter

This cable works great with LSI Broadcom SAS 9300-8i SATA/SAS Host Bus Adapter. I particularly like the cable design, which avoids using bulky Molex cables to power the drives - it has a data connector on one end and a power connector on the other. You don't need special power cables for your drives; Their 15-pin power cables used with SATA drives will work fine with SAS drives. The cable length was more than enough for my full size ATX case. With an HBA adapter and two such cables, you can connect up to 8 drives and free up many SATA ports on your motherboard. This greatly tidied up the cables on the front of the motherboard, and you still have SATA connectors when you need them. Update 7/13/2020: I forgot to mention that it is important to check the hard drive compatibility with your SAS adapters. I chose the Seagate ST8000NM0065 12Gb/s SAS drives because they are listed as compatible with the LSI Broadcom SAS 9300-8i HBA. My Seagate ST8000NM0055 SATA drives are also compatible with the LSI adapter and CableDeconn cable. It's also important to understand that in a JBOD SAS drive configuration, you can't get around 12 Gb/s throughput, or roughly 1.5 gigabytes per second. My JBOD setup on the ST8000NM0065 achieves a maximum write speed of around 240 megabytes per second for very large files with write caching activated. That's about 1.9 Gb/s.
