Review on MSI Pro Z490 ATX πŸ”§ Motherboard - Intel LGA 1200, DDR4-SDRAM by Abhey Rai ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

One of the best deals, glad I bought this.

In fact, the board has a lot of advantages, but so that the review does not turn into another semi-advertising post, I will write about what I specifically checked out the most. Although I don't feel very good about msi itself because of its marketing and warranty policies; I took this motherboard as the most reasonable choice among all the initial motherboards based on the Z490, based on the available theoretical layouts: it has a relatively good reinforced 6-phase power supply, which in theory will power even the i9-10900k in overclocking without serious problems (see hardwareunboxed tests); a fairly convenient, functional and predictable BIOS, which is already well known when working with other boards from msi; very likely future support for the pci-e 4.0 interface, which, due to different hardware implementations (or rather, non-implementations), will most likely be deprived of low-cost z490 boards from other manufacturers (the main reason why I took this particular board, and not the asus prime z490 - its main competitor, like me seems). The main drawback I used to see was the lack of a dedicated button for resetting the BIOS parameters and the extremely inconvenient location of the corresponding jumper - not far from the main pci-e x16, as a result of which this jumper will most likely be blocked by a powerful 2.5-3-slot video, and therefore, it will be inevitable to bust half system and the resulting "bombing" of the owner of the board in case the board does not start with incorrect BIOS settings (for example, memory). However, the main drawback that I saw turned out to be completely leveled by the fact that the board itself (without any jumpers and buttons) resets incorrect settings and does it quickly (this happens, as a rule, within 10 seconds after starting with incorrect settings; in rare cases - after 3 failed launches). For understanding: I retested at least 10 different kits on it and did not encounter any problems. So I have no reason not to recommend this board.

Pros
  • Runs great memory. But the main thing: convenience during its overclocking (the motherboard itself resets invalid settings very quickly).
Cons
  • Haven't encountered yet. If I find anything significant, I'll post it.
