Review on MINIX Octa Core Directly Technology Limited by Justin Ritter

It was beautiful but broke after 4 months

I just tried another Android TV box. It was a $30 MXQ Pro 4k that I found in a $10 bin at a local pawn shop. I have some experience with embedded systems, Raspi, Kodi etc. This box is way better than my old TV box which one day literally stopped working. I only played with it one night but a software update was already available from the Minix servers. I found it smooth and intuitive to use, with a great launcher/frontend. Anyone with some Android experience should have no problem setting this up for Netflix, Amazon video, network streaming, or just browsing local files from a flash drive, etc. I didn't even try to use the remote control, but was instantly ready to use the Rii keyboard on first boot. Highly recommended. * Update 10/15/18 Everything worked very well and I connected a skinny 2TB external drive to it. If you leave this device on for a few hours, it will slow down and experience more video glitches. After a few months, the video started showing very strong distortions like haze. When I checked the HDMI cable, there was a random wire sticking out of the plastic around the HDMI connector. I got it out there and had several months of uninterrupted enjoyment. I'm returning home today after my friend saw it and left it on for a few hours. When I turned the TV back on, there was haze again. I mentioned this to my girlfriend and she dances and just tries to adjust the angle the HDMI cable goes through without being rude or anything and now the output is fully scrambled. Time to dig up the box and send it in for return.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Hard to say
