They turn on when people enter and turn off (I set 30 seconds) after they leave. pantry ceiling I was able to make a long light that goes the full length. Double click to switch to motion detection. Use the M button to select whether it should detect movement and only switch on at night or also during the day. Select the timer button to choose the dwell time and brightness for the level (from night light to glare). Excellent value for less than 25.
