Review on 🧊 2 oz Vollrath Stainless Steel Disher - Size 16, Dark Blue by Gunaraj Callaham

Poor compared to previous Vollrath cookware

I recently purchased a Vollrath #40 dishwasher and it runs very quietly. I ordered #16 last week. The first #16 I received had a terrible effect: the gears banged into the slots; The thumb lever experienced considerable resistance; and the spring arm got stuck in several places each time. I sent back the first #16, the replacement was hardly any better. Reading the reviews I'm now seeing an increase in complaints like mine over the last year so I figured it wouldn't get any better if I traded another time. #40 and found a few changes. First, the punched letters are embossed deeper with coarser typography on the slotted wedge plate. The NSF stamp on the #16 thumb press is an outline type, while the NSF #40 stamp is not. The edges of the gear and tooth slots on #16 were rougher compared to #40. Unlike the #40, the #16's semi-circular shell scraper pressed against the inside of the shell near the hinge holes, causing the shell to pull and scrape. With a file I smoothed the contact surfaces between the gear and the grooves. I also detached the bowl's firmly spring-loaded scraper from one end and gently bent the ends together to shorten the distance between the ends (reduce pressure), then tucked the free end back into the hole. Using very fine sandpaper, I smoothed out the small indentations and ridges in the bowl caused by the heavy contact of the scraper. Together, these repairs smoothed out the action between the poorly built parts. This #16 now produces the same sweet action as my #40. How many other customers would bother to fix a sloppy (earlier excellent) Vollrath cymbal?! I am very disappointed in Wollrath. This is a betrayal of long-standing trust in those looking to buy US-made goods. At a time when American manufacturing is looking to make a comeback, selling inferior, downgraded products based on old customer satisfaction ratings is unethical. Revain must remove previous reviews when the company lowers the quality of its production. But above all shame on Vollrath!

Pros
  • Blade protrudes from bowl to prevent sticking, accurate portions; dishwasher safe
Cons
  • The list is getting long.
