Review on πŸ“Έ Compact 7ft Portable Reverse Legs Light Stand for Photography and Video Lighting - PHOCUS by Beth Martin

Revainrating 3 out of 5

The top latch is difficult to tighten, there is a risk of equipment falling if the top suddenly collapses.

The Phocus compact 6.9ft photo studio stand with reversed legs strikes a good balance of stability, weight and price. When it's fully raised and the legs are spread 45 degrees, the height is 83 inches, which is exactly what the ad says. The folded height is also within specification at just 20 inches. The weight on my digital scale is 2.6 pounds. Slightly heavier than the 2.16 listed, but the rest of the specs are so accurate I suspect a typo in the description. The plastic handles have a smooth finish. Plastic seems light, but we want our gear to be light, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The speaker thickness and feet are thinner than the popular LumoPro 605S, but this stand is also 0.2 pounds lighter and about 30% cheaper, so some sort of compromise can be expected. The only real problem I found right away was that the top link only tightened in the closed position with the screw over tightened. I can get it to stay in place, but only by making the top screw harder to loosen. I'm also afraid of breaking the handle, so I probably just won't close it when the stand isn't in use. Traveling with the folded stand in your bag can be a minor annoyance, but for those who carry the strap separately it can be a hassle. The connection is easier to lock when the section is fully extended, probably because the column is a bit thicker at the bottom. If you can put up with a loose top, this stand is a good choice for light use. Edit: I shared this review with the seller and received a nice and polite response that they will weigh their product again. They have since edited their product description. I'm glad to see that their customer support team takes the time to properly resolve issues. Edit: After a few months of light use, the top slides down unless I tighten the top screw very hard, back on point. be difficult to solve. If this is not done, the upper part with the flash and the umbrella soft box will collapse from a strong impact, which may cause them to fall and damage the lighting equipment. For this reason I have to lower my star rating to three and can no longer recommend the stand.
