Review on ๐Ÿ”’ Lippert 281285 Never Fail Shackle and Bolt Kit: Ensure Double Axle Reliability by Steven Ferguson

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Hardware is of very poor quality.

I ordered this kit because it got great reviews on another popular trailer parts website, the price is only cheaper on Revain. Let's just say after installing the components and then removing them the only thing that seems worthwhile in the whole kit seems to be the bushings and that remains to be seen. Whether they are any better than typical nylon/plastic bushings I don't know yet. The bushings seem stronger and more durable than the nylon bushings as I had to drive a large part (ball) into the grommets. This is where all the positive aspects stop. In my opinion the hardware is junk. The holes in the clevises are not square or centered. The screws just seemed inferior and clumsy. As I tightened the same flimsy nuts onto bolts, I watched each bolt/nut spew shavings. No, they weren't crossed. The hardness of these bolts is so low. I actually broke a screw trying to tighten it. At that moment, I felt like I should remove these components. I just felt that the lack of quality could lead to more serious/dangerous problems later. It feels like I was ripped off for paying $90 just for the goddamn bushings since the rest of the kit will eventually be reworked for other non-safety critical projects. After removing everything I bought a completely different kit from Revain which not only has everything in that kit (except special bushings) but also 2 new balancers, 6 new hangers, 4 new 1750lb leaf springs, U kits -shaped screws . , and the equipment is clearly higher quality than this kit, since it is Dexter; just over twice the price, around $200. I just replaced the bearing bushings in another set with these bushings. I just hope the bushings are worth at least some of the hassle. At least now I have some expensive screw/belt scraps for small welding projects.

Pros
  • Pretty impressive
Cons
  • Protection
