Review on Fantasia Premium Sketch Pencil 6Pc by Cody Nordlund

Revainrating 5 out of 5

It takes time to build up a very dark shade

I would give them a higher rating but I've only used one other brand of watercolor pencils and that was Staedtler Karat. I was attracted to these watercolor pencils because they get wet and the main lines of the pencil are not visible when wet. They give a nice smooth layer of pigment if you apply water with a brush and move the pigment across the paper. They also release pigments when rubbed against damp paper if you are careful not to tear or rub the surface with a pencil point. I like to dry the area first before moving on to other colors or the same to increase the depth of color the pigment lays down. I mainly use them for sketching and use colors on the outer edges of the drawing that look more natural. I even start painting over part of the drawing with clear water to blend the outer lines into the main part of the work, making them disappear and giving my work a subtle vanishing edge. The pigment is fairly stable when wet and dry, which allows for layering of colors to get great results in my paintings. If you haven't tried watercolor pencils they are amazing for the price, they sharpen well too and I haven't had a problem with a colored pencil snapping in a wooden pencil case yet.
