It's blue but not as bright as the picture. Appears lighter when first applied but fades after drying. I like it because it sits well and gives volume to the lashes. As for me, I wore Maybelline's Midnight Blue mascara in the '80s, but it was discontinued and long gone. They still make Great Lash Royal Blue, but it's no match for Midnight Blue. This is rather my favorite Midnight Blue from the 80's. I don't think it's really waterproof so you can't jump in the pool like you could with 80's Midnight Blue :)
