Type of review

The tool arrived as described. The box contained the tool which was wrapped in bubble wrap, two AAA batteries and an instruction sheet.Inspecting the tool; there are no visible indications of what material was used. Testing the outer shell via several methods, it appears to be plastic. The molding is quite good, with no irregularities, or formations that would indicate an over used die. It’s smooth on all surfaces inside and out and fits together tightly. The top lid stays secure to protect the

Calibration Table Needs Work

This is the first moisture meter that I've ever owned or used, so there's a learning curve here. For example, I was not aware that a moisture meter had to be "calibrated" for different species of wood. I can't complain about the process of calibrating; the device makes that really easy. You just find your wood in the "Calibration Table", find the code (A, B, C, D, E, F, G, or H) associated with it, and use the arrow button on the device to cycle through the letters until you get to the one you…

Works well, but no reading below 6% for wood

Just got this yesterday and have been trying it out on different species of wood in different conditions. When I used it to check the spruce 2x4's in my workbench (in a dry basement), I couldn't get any reading. At first I thought the meter might be defective. Then I realized the moisture content of the wood was below 6%, which is the lower limit of the meter.I verified this by moistening the surface of the 2x4 with a damp sponge. Then I checked that area with the meter, and it read around 25%…

Pros
  • ACCURATE AND QUICK MEASURING TOOL
Cons
  • The display can be difficult to read in certain lighting conditions

I’m a newbie to wood moisture meters. Bought this because it was inexpensive. Needed one because the exterior wood stain and sealer I want to use requires application to wood with moisture levels below 12 percent. The sealant manufacturer recommends purchasing a moisture meter. Also plan to use it to check firewood next winter from a tree we brought down a few months ago.My biggest beef is with the wood "calibration”. There are 10 settings depending on the wood type or hardness (settings A-J…

The good and not so good.

First the good: It arrived quickly and in good condition. It is pretty easy and intuitive to use.The not so good: First, I did not receive the "- 1 storage pouch with belt loop" like it says I should have in the "Included Components." I don't like carrying it in my pocket or sitting it down where I have to get it all of the time. Second, the list of tree species did not include the firewood I get here in the Southwest, and there is no guidance or cross-reference on which species to use as…

Pros
  • Checking my firewood
Cons
  • The unit can feel flimsy and delicate, increasing the risk of damage during use

Very Useful Tool For Deck Staining

I ordered this Wood Moisture Meter so that I could know with more certainty whether or not my pre-washed, pre-prepped deck was ready for staining. Every 12-18 months here in the hot Texas sun, I reapply the same high quality oil-based deck stain to my cedar deck. But some years, it just does not stick the way it does in other years. I finally broke the code. Instead of waiting for a set number of days for the deck to dry, and guessing that it was dry enough for application after that period of…

Great for testing your firewood

For a Chinese product the instructions were well written and setting it up for different species to test was straight forward using the chart.

Pros
  • TWO MEASURING MODE, WIDE APPLICATIONS
Cons
  • The device may be limited in its ability to detect water leaks in complex or hard-to-reach areas

I will make this a very short review because I have very limited experience with this so far.I purchased my first wood stove that I have ever owned and so I have been buying a lot of items for it that I have never purchased before. One of the items I purchased is this moisture reader and the first thing I noticed that separates this from other models I have read about online is that this is calibrated for different types of wood because different types of wood carried different moisture content…

Incredibly easy to use

Pulled it out of the package, inserted the batteries, read the instructions, and got easy to read results in less than 5 minutes. They even provide the batteries and a screwdriver to get into the battery compartment.

Pros
  • ‎Yellow
Cons
  • It may not be good for measuring moisture in certain types of insulation material

Works as stated best in my review

I had some sheet rock in my home get wet. I needed this to see how far the water traveled to see if it had to be removed. When set to the home mode, it rapidly gave me an indication of the moisture content allowing me to determine how much wall board I had to remove.Likewise, being an avid woodworker, this can also be used for measuring the moisture content of that various woods that I work with. This device was a win-win for me. It worked for my immediate need and future needs with my…

Seems well built but lacks comprehensive cal chart

This review is for model MT270.Meter is built pretty well and even comes with a pair of AAA batteries. It is nicely backlit and easy to read with both digital and simulated analog indications on the display. The temperature scale moves very slowly and seems to be averaging out over a time span, instead of reading a direct instantaneous temperature.I bought this meter to help check my rough lumber, as a beginning hobbyist woodworker. The meter does seem to indicate a fairly consistent range with

Pins Broke, Warranty Honored

While trying to measure moisture inside a piece of firewood, the pins snapped off inside the firewood. I contacted the company through their website, and they worked with me to get replacement pins. While I'm not thrilled with the durability of the pins, I must give Tavool kudos for being highly responsive and willing to honor their 2-year warranty.

Pros
  • It works fine
Cons
  • The readings can be inaccurate if the pins are not properly inserted into the material
