The tool arrived as described. The box contained the tool which was wrapped in bubble wrap, two AAA batteries and an instruction sheet.Inspecting the tool; there are no visible indications of what material was used. Testing the outer shell via several methods, it appears to be plastic. The molding is quite good, with no irregularities, or formations that would indicate an over used die. It’s smooth on all surfaces inside and out and fits together tightly. The top lid stays secure to protect the prongs hidden beneath, which has several rows of dimples to help take it off which does take some effort. The display is lit from LEDs on the edge and the brightness of the screen characters are easy to see.The instructions are on a folded piece of paper which when opened is rather large. One side is the operating instructions in English only. Ok by me because I tear off all the excess that I don’t need which is ¾ of manuals / instructions. The other side is divided into two lists; list 1 is species of wood by generic terms i.e. Oak and the other is the botanical name and species. This list is important for understanding and operating the device.Testing and operation; The tool started booted quickly and was ready without any input or setting up.Two modes of operation are available which is done by pressing the mode/power button. This changes an images between a symbol of a "home” or a "tree”. Testing different environments and the ability to use the device for more than one application. The bottom of the screen has a series of letters from A to G that represents the species of the wood that is to be tested. This letter is determined from the list of species to be tested from the instructions.Testing was done on three different samples that I had laying around. Live Oak, Walnut Crotch and Ash.Testing at several points indicated various states of moisture content, although the selection process was challenging for the Live Oak. I compared the reading to another testing unit that is several times more expensive, and found that the readings were nearly identical. The other device is easier to use because the selection of species is limited or A or B, Soft or Hard wood.Critique of this aspect will require a copy be made of species I mostly work with, which varies but manageable, reducing it to legible font. I did not come with a bag or enclosure but have an extra camera bag that it fits in and the cheatsheet. The prongs are sharp, but there are is only the one set. The other unit has two, long and short.Overall I’m pleased with the purchase and had it on my wish list for some time. Great value/
