For those who are good at ironing, this is a very practical device that greatly simplifies the process. The square surface makes it easy to complete most designs, although larger designs will require a second press (or a larger EasyPress). The temperature and timer take some of the guesswork off, but Cricut is embarrassed they didn't include the chart they have on their website. Cricut recommends that you purchase their EasyPress mat to use on your surface. I use the basic ironing pad I bought from JOANN which gives me more surface area for less money. However, I recommend the Cricut iron-on protector as it makes some projects a lot easier to complete. While you can generally get the same results with a regular iron, EasyPress makes the job easier, especially if you're using Cricut. Temperature/Timer Chart and well worth the investment if you're doing a lot of complex projects.
