Review BR30 Daylight Non-dimmable

Bought a cheap track light to install in the garage. The track lighting used soft white 65W BR30 bulbs. They put out a nominal 600 lumens. I bought these to replace as daylight is better for work areas and warm white is better for relaxing. These bulbs are significantly brighter (an additional 600 nominal lumens, just like buying an extra bulb) and 6 bulbs use less power than 1 bulb. I switched my whole house to LEDs and got a bit fanatical. I was thrilled to save energy on my utility bills and know I wouldn't have to replace a lightbulb for 10-20 years. The outer shell is mostly plastic except for the end of the cartridge. The lens spreads the light fairly evenly and doesn't show any unsightly innards when it's on or off. There is a faint TCP logo in the center of the lens. They're pretty similar in build quality and weight to some of the more expensive GE BR30 bulbs I've bought, if that's any indication. written on the page). The description on this page says 9.8 watts. Obviously they were aiming for a 700 lumen rating with both daylight and warm white bulbs, and daylight achieves those lumens more easily with less output. While I don't really consider this a "cheat", I would like a 9.8w daylight bulb to put out around 900 lumens. After all, when buying a light bulb, it is always stated in watts and not in lumens. A 65W daylight bulb emits more lumens than a 65W warm white bulb. So why not do the same for their LED equivalents? All said and done, I am happy with the purchase. When I need more light, I buy a bunch of cheaper track lights and rub them together.

Pros
  • Non-dimmable
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
