Review on πŸ” Enhanced Vortex Optics Crossfire HD Binoculars by Anna Barnett

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Amazing value for a truly versatile binocular

I've just bought a Vortex Crossfire HD 12x50 binocular and have been testing it for a week and I have a few important thoughts to share. First I was looking for a real all round pair of binoculars that would be small/light enough for day and twilight bird watching and better than regular astronomy binoculars that can be hand held or on a tripod. I have many binoculars that excel at either of these tasks, but none of them do both exceptionally well - until now. Focusing, stunning light-in-light collection and a manageable form factor. The Crossfires midfield sharpness is the best I've seen for under $200, and the 12x magnification makes it easy to identify bird and animal tracks. And the 50mm lenses make that identification available much later in the twilight than any other handheld binoculars I own. They're surprisingly light and handy with a 50mm binocular - they only weigh 29.5 ounces and are extremely well balanced, with a strong but sticky rubberized body - with the right technique they're just as easy to handle as my 10x42. *** ALSO *** These tight tricks are up to 6 feet long! Yes, I said SIX feet. The 12x magnification combined with a 6 foot focal length makes these binoculars arguably the best performing butterfly/insect binoculars ever made! Another plus is that they are easily the most beautiful pair of binoculars I've ever seen - there's something about the smooth curves and material transitions from front to back that keeps people asking about them. All materials and mechanical parts (focuser, rear sight, body) are of very high quality with almost perfect touch resistance. They feature fully multi-coated optics, including phase corrected ones, as well as waterproof/fogproof and o-ring seals. For astronomy they shine even more, easily outperforming any 7x50 or 10x50 I've ever used. The standard tripod mount works great and on the tripod the Crossfires can separate the star better than any binoculars I own. They're even better with easily accessible star clusters like M7 and M44 sparkling with life and demonstrating the delights of binocular astronomy. And to think that these are roof prisms (not usually associated with astronomical skill) is even more surprising - the optics and build quality are commendable. Additional expenses. Summary: Low cost, very high quality, beautiful looks, wide range of features, amazing comfortable optics, best value binoculars available today. And I haven't even mentioned the Vortex VIP unlimited guarantee - the way these guys combine so much quality and value for such a low price is just crazy - but you'd be crazy not to check it out! Highest recommendation.
