Very happy with this money saver.

**Update: I was asked if it has a Chevy logo (butterfly badge). I had one, it's a tiny piece of plastic that you stick over the screw hole with double sided tape after assembly. Nice touch but not sure if it's still in this one. ** As mentioned, some of the previous reviews are, shall we say, "funny". This is a *case*, not a replacement key or replacement electronic component (see description friends). The intention is that you transfer your original printed circuit board (PCB) and then cut the blade (key) to match your OEM. This is intended to replace a defective housing, the rubber cover of the button on the standard key fob fails particularly quickly. Cutting a clean blade to match your original negates the great value of this item. Your local GM dealer will empty your wallet for this little service with great speed and efficiency, if they choose to do it at all. Video how to transfer your switchblade board and key to a new case. Some say you need to remove the pin from the new and your original and reposition the blade in the new blade release button assembly. With this product I have replaced the entire original "innards" to a new case. The hardest part (besides opening the OEM case) is aligning the button/spring so it works the way you want it to. Insert the release button into the key blade and ensure it is fully seated. Place it on the front (button) of the new shell, making sure the button is sticking out of the shell like the original. Bring the blade to the closed position. Insert the spring, make sure the spring is "bent up" (this indicates the spring torque) Align the back of the housing on the spring and put it on (make sure it is hooked , there is a notch in the plastic) and turn it (back of the case) clockwise a few times to build up tension on the spring. Assemble the body, check the release and closing of the blade. When everything is ok, close the case, put in this little screw (which I lost) and cover it with a very cool little Chevy bow tie. the new one (on the left) and the old one which I put together with the blank blade to remind me how to do this. I will be ordering a few more of these as backups before GM discontinues this type of key. Big money saver if you're even a little bit capable of breaking plastic, working with a screwdriver and watching YouTube.

Pros
  • This item is not a remote key, it is just a remote key wrapper. NO (remote/electronics/ignition or transponder ICs)
Cons
  • weak
