My 1999 Sonoma won't start in the parking lot and after checking a few things I noticed I didn't hear the fuel pump hum when I turned the key to the on position. I found a genuine Delphi fuel pump at a much lower price than my local Blue and Gold auto parts store and was in the $370 range. While waiting for the new fuel pump to be delivered, I prepared the truck. The option to remove the truck body, so I had to undo the 8 bolts holding the body to the frame. I asked a friend to raise the bed next to the cab and just secure it with a pair of 2x4s. In fact I couldn't remove the bed because there are 2 screws that attach the ground wires to and I couldn't get those screws. as they were well rusted. A new pump arrived and after opening the box I studied all the contents and literature. The literature talks about all the improvements they made to the pump as it looks a little different than the one I took off my tank. The kit includes a new connector for the electrical connection and instructions on how to connect the new connector. They even include the necessary cable connectors. All you need is a set of wire cutters/crimping tools. After installing a new electrical plug, I went inside. new pump. I don't recall seeing it anywhere in the instructions, but you defiantly added new grease to the o-ring. I saw a video that said to use silicone lube, I can tell you WD-40 doesn't work. Once properly seated in the o-ring in the tank, simply slide the retainer on to hold the pump in the tank. Connect all power and fuel connections. Then I checked it and the car started right away. One recommendation I have is to buy a new fuel tank retaining ring, it keeps the fuel pump in the tank. Mine was very rusty and practically fell into pieces when removing it. I've had it installed in my truck for three weeks now without a single problem and don't expect any problems. I would recommend to anyone who wants to replace the fuel pump.
