I just bought a 2007 BMW 335i sedan and have started rebuilding it changing filters and fluids. The car smelled like basement and I thought I had changed the cabin filter. I found a homemade video on how to change the cabin air filter and it looked very easy so I gave it a try. All you have to do is unscrew the screws that hold the filter housing in place and pull out the old one. The old one was dark gray and covered in dirt. So I cleaned the filter housing and sprayed Lysol sanitizing spray on the vents that bring air into the machine. Apparently, moisture gets in there, and over time mold can form on the fan fins, causing a musty smell. A good dose of Lysol on the filter and I put it back in the car. This filter fits perfectly and was delivered quickly. I saved a lot of money doing it myself instead of having the dealer charge me a fortune.
