These shoes are not waterproof. The lower part is covered with rubber, but the upper part made of fabric and neoprene is water-permeable. I was able to fix it with a waterproofing spray, but it shouldn't have been necessary. The other problem is that the ankle is incredibly tight and you need a shoehorn to put them on. It gets a little easier over time, but not by much. Sometimes they are comfortable. The Boa system is great and the sole provides good traction when walking. The difficulty in putting them on may be forgivable, but the lack of proper waterproofing is not. If you need waterproof cycling shoes, look elsewhere.
