My thin-waisted child has trouble finding pants that are long enough for the leg but not so wide at the waist that he can't wear them. They have an adjustable waistband that gathers along the back seam to keep the front of the pant flat. Nice medium weight material, not at all what I expected, much nicer than in the description. Belt loops also contribute to the convenient adjustment, so that when the shirt is tucked in, a piece of elastic can be loosened at the waist and tightened with the belt. So, depending on your preferences or how the pants look adjusted, you can find a balance between the waistband adjusters and the belt itself. I am very happy with these pants for my son's first school dance/social etiquette class and band performances this year.
