Was on a summer hike in Arizona and wanted some durable shoes for two kids (6 and 8 years old). Kids used to wear regular sneakers, but we wanted more tread. They performed well in terms of stability and breathability on rocky/steep/dusty trails. In fact, there was some sand left after the hike because of all the little breathing holes in the shoes. The kids didn't seem to mind. We also crossed a small stream, but the shoes dried out overnight. The shape is similar to Keens so not the most attractive. When my oldest daughter first wore them she wasn't sure about the awkwardness of the rubber sock but she got over it. Once the shoe got a bit dusty, the rubber part became less noticeable. We bought pink and turquoise. As mentioned in the other reviews the velcro is probably the only 'cheap' part of the shoe but after 2 weeks of daily use the strap remained intact and did the job. Overall this was a great purchase for the price and quality.
