I don't usually write reviews but this purchase left such a bad taste in my mouth that I wanted to make sure others didn't have the same problem. I recently bought a more expensive used car as a daily driver around town and thought it would be wise to have a scanner of my own to identify various problems that might arise. After spending hours researching which OBDII would work best for the features, I pulled the trigger on Launch's Creader 529 over the Christmas holidays. I put it in my SUV storage box so I can use it as needed and while you can update the firmware for it, using it on older home cars wasn't a necessary step and since my drive was '06 I thought that it would be no problem. We've been hit with insanely cold temperatures recently and one morning after a strange idle (-16F) my car's check engine light came on and it was so cold outside I decided to wait for it to warm up a bit to to start a new scanner. When I plugged it in everything worked and I tried to scan 3 times. He gave me a red X for all diagnostics and after 3 failed scan attempts I knew I needed to update the firmware. It turns out that this model is not even listed on the manufacturer's official website. It shows Creader series devices but 529 is not in the list of supported devices. Good. I keep googling and find another website that has the device and specs and also has a button you can click for "Update Tool" but this results in a corrupted page and is unusable. I go ahead and find a third party site that hosts and installs the Creader Series update tool - after all I assume everything is fine. When I connect the 529 to the computer with the cable that came with it, it comes into the bootloader interface and the tool automatically detects the device, great. It shows 2 files available for update and when you try to run it you get the message "Update failed, please try again". I disabled something, rebooted, downloaded the installer again, nothing. I then check if I can return this and now it's past the return period but it shows support options. First, I'm calling a local US number and that number is no longer in service. I call 800 and get an automated system, press 4 to back up the device and after 28 minutes of music on hold (never spoken to a person) it randomly hangs up. I try again, same thing. This time I call back and there is an opportunity to speak to the operator - he rings 4 times and goes to the general voicemail system. I call and try to contact the operator again and the call is answered by a woman who speaks Chinese. I tried to contact US support but they didn't understand me and hung up. When you go to their product page, it starts with Chinese text and your browser recognizes it and converts it to an English website. So I'm pretty sure I was directed to their Chinese support center and not the US. Please. buy something else - it will only end in disappointment and a lousy tool kit.
