My husband has chronic kidney disease and needs peritoneal dialysis at home. So we take his vitals four times a day. This thermometer constantly showed its temperature of 99 degrees or higher. His temperature is constantly 97 over 98. Fever can mean peritonitis and quick death. However, since he had no other symptoms and we just had a bad thermometer, we waited a day or two for the dialysis clinic nurse to get us a second thermometer. With both, this thermometer constantly shows two to three degrees more. Neither reading matched, and it was always higher. The warranty only allows shipping to the factory - for $2 - for "repair". Along with providing the box and shipping, this costs half the cost of a simple replacement item. My biggest concern is someone buying this using it only when they think they or a loved one has a fever. This could well mean someone rushing to the emergency room or paying a doctor or clinic when everything is actually fine, or when the temperature is only 99 and the thermometer reads 101 or 102 - a significant difference in this case.
