Review on ๐Ÿพ Sherpa on Wheels Pet Carrier: Convenient Black Rolling Bag for Pet Transportation by Rodney Shepherd

Significant improvements over previous generation Sherpa

This version of the big Sherpa on wheels is really impressive. It's stronger and has much better wheels and materials than the previous generation. The bottom is a one-piece plastic shell that protects the bottom edges and can hold liquids that might spill while moving. One of my cats, who is afraid of flying, escaped in flight from a previous generation Sherpa by unzipping the bottom of the bag. He ran to the nose of the plane and I had to grab him and slide him back into my bag (where the other cat stayed obedient) and hold him while I zipped it up. The zippers on this sherpa start higher, away from where the animal is most likely to dig. That means the doors don't open as wide, but that's a design feature, not a flaw. The large top opening is the preferred entry and exit method. The height and width of this bag fits perfectly under the seats of all common airplanes. This bag rolls more freely than the old Sherpa, allowing for better portability through airports, but must be held with your feet under the seat during takeoff. If I worked for Sherpa I would be very proud of all the design improvements they made in just one generation. The old Sherpa was a good product but this one is fantastic and much more durable. In my photos below, the new Sherpa is the one with the green flag. I would recommend for a cat or two or a dog up to 22 pounds. How to get two cats in a Sherpa: Put the Sherpa in a small space, like a bathroom. With the top down, grab a cat in each hand and close the bathroom door. Start with a more submissive cat and push them aside. Speak firmly and hold on so the cats know you mean business. Lower the second cat next to the first, hind legs forward. If they don't cooperate at first, just keep trying. Eventually they will understand the picture and stop fighting you.

Pros
  • DO NOT select trunk size based on weight alone. First choose the carrier size based on your pet's size and then make sure it doesn't exceed the maximum weight limit.
Cons
  • There are drawbacks
