I really wanted to like them, especially since videos cause shortages and price hikes for most of the best brands. Well I just can't give a good review. I don't even know how they got so many five star reviews because they are terrible pencils. I have several MUCH cheaper "nameless" brands that are infinitely better than this one. I suspect those giving great reviews just have a different definition of "good" with colored pencil than I do - or maybe I got a bad batch somehow. Pens that should actually be selected in quality control and were overlooked? ADVANTAGES: >> You look good. CONS: >> The price is too high compared to the quality. >> You need to attach the hinge to the can to be able to open the can. >> Color saturation is low - to get deep, rich colors you have to press so hard it hurts, and even then the colors aren't that good, IMHO. >> Unless you use very expensive sanded pastel paper, it's impossible to get rich colors. Who wants to waste expensive paper on these crayons?>>They don't blend well with clear blenders.>>They don't blend well with clear blenders.>>Colors are uneven - some are softer than others, many already scratchy. >> Dozens of pencils are not centered and do not sharpen properly. You expose one side of the line and the other side is covered in wood to the top. Unforgivable. I can even see on my kit where the manufacturer hand sharpened these off-center pencils to look good in the case! >> Layering is nearly impossible on anything other than the expensive sandpaper mentioned above. The only layering you can get is if you keep the colors very pale and light - otherwise they fill the tooth of the paper so quickly and still don't give a rich deep color. CONCLUSION: Spend another $20 or $30 and buy a smaller set of better branded pencils. The best brand in a smaller set will still give you the same or even more colors than this set because the best pens can be layered and mixed properly. Stay away from them if you don't want to waste your money. Again, I'm open to the idea that I MAYBE gotten a bad set that should have been rejected, but I won't risk ever buying these pens again in the hope that they're the reason my set is so bad.
