Very odd stem for glasses and drinks

These glasses are so "different" that I almost sent them back the first time I touched their stem. It is square in cross section, with some sharp edges/corners and a slight indentation at the top which I assume is for the thumb. I find the "feeling" quite odd, but a few people have convinced me that I should accept the glasses as "something different". Just take a look. Maybe they'll come back.
