Review on Vintage Charm with Modern Convenience: Royal 79119q Classic Manual Typewriter in Enchanting Purple by Chris Reddick

Great after a change!

Due to all the negative reviews I was so scared to buy it but I really, really wanted it so I jumped at the chance and figured I could return it if needed. I will definitely not come back! I absolutely LOVE it! However, a change was needed. The spacebar is set too low, so my thumb hits the metal case with every press. Very uncomfortable and hurts if left unattended. But I just taped a thick strip of felt (maybe half an inch) over the spacebar and that raised it enough to fix the problem. (see photo) Maybe it disturbs the aesthetics, but that doesn't bother me. Also, the gap is soft now. :) Another caveat: When unpacking, the operating instructions advise you to remove a few plastic parts that are used for shipping to ensure the stability inside the typewriter. I started pulling it out and accidentally removed (and broke) the little paper guide since it's made of the same white plastic as the detachable parts, so I assumed it wasn't part of the machine, but it was. Oops. Not a big deal as it works great without them too, but be careful to only remove the right parts. ok (I changed the ink setting to "heavy"; on "light" the letters were quite faded. I'm not sure if the ribbon dried a bit but mine definitely wasn't completely dry and cracked like some other people. Seems to be well built, with nice metal body and it's definitely pretty (mine is purple.) It takes a bit of muscle power to type on it rather than a computer keyboard and it makes a great bat but it is all part of the fun!I love it and just want to sit and type on it all day!

Pros
  • Sturdy retro style metal case for durability
Cons
  • Expensive

Keys too hard to operate normally burned up 174dollars. Typewriter no good.
