Olympus VN-722PC Review This full featured Olympus voice recorder came in perfect condition with two alkaline batteries. It's easy to hold and feels durable. I look forward to using it and telling you more about it later. This is the second Olympus voice recorder I've bought after being happy with the previous model for several years. In the meantime, first impressions: the attached physical manual is not complete but points to a reliable version loaded into the 4GB of internal storage. The latter has included versions in English, Spanish or French as separate corresponding files on a PC or MAC with a very short USB cable. The recorder's internal memory consists of 5 pre-defined recording folders, simply named A, B, . The recordings are named by the date of the recording and the sequence number. The manual advertises the ability to search for files via a calendar interface. It works by selecting a specific date, which then lists the files so recorded: selecting one of these will jump into its folder and playback will begin immediately - at which point the folder name will be displayed. You cannot use the calendar list to delete files: first select the file, stop playback and click delete. The USB interface provides a convenient way to transfer audio files to your computer in MP3 format (one setting by default) or in WMA format (three options, but I recommend only the highest settings). Recording can be done via the built-in microphone, optional microphones (including stereo), or via a connected device (untested). A few predefined "recording scene" settings are predefined (dictation, meeting, conference, dubbing, duplication/timer, auto-split, telephone, DNS), how they differ in sound quality is left up to the Olympus engineers. . See page 21 of the big manual for how to use three of these modes. The voice recorder offers many options. Therefore, please take the time to familiarize yourself with its use with the help of the manual. If you haven't used Olympus products before, this may seem counterintuitive at first, but I think it will be easy enough for you to learn.
