Plugged straight into my truck
This is a nicely designed (external) OBD 2 port expander. It plugged directly into my 2014 RAM 1500 diesel port. Please note that with the direction of the RAM port and the direction of this cable at right angles, the cable faces up towards the driver and requires a return to itself to return under the dash. Too much snow outside to poke around in, but I'll see if my RAM's OBD2 connector can be rotated 180 degrees so the cable faces down. This isn't a problem unless you're super picky about your stuff. He is okay. A few zip ties under the dash are in order. My OBD2 scanner connects flawlessly.
